Mike's Story

So, Mike pointed out that this blog is about us and wanted me to post this story from him...

So, he'd been working at the mine for 3 days when all this happened. He was somewhere, cleaning up something, next to these boilers that melt the line they mine down to lava. And out of the corner of his eyes he saw someone walk by. He looked up to see who it was and realized it wasn't someone but someTHING. This thing had no head, no hands or feet but was clearly walking away. Mike went to follow it and it disappeared through the wall.
Now, apparently, these "sightings" are normal. The next day Mike had to give a "ghost statement". I guess everyone does when they see things like that. The reason why, from Mike's understanding, is so they can blame the fact of the mine being haunted when things go missing...? Yeah. My question exactly.
But it was the night after that was scary for him. He could not fall asleep. Even though at the time he wasn't freaked out, it was nearly impossible for him to go to sleep. It was to the point that I was going to call my dad or his to come give him a blessing. But he asked me to read to him and my reading put him to sleep (probably because I was reading Twilight...haha).

But other than that, work is going great for Mike. He's even looking at getting a promotion to become an apprentice which would be AWESOME!! It's still up in the air if we're going to move to Gabbs or if we're going to invest in a trailer for him to live in during his four days on. IF we move to Gabbs, I'm only going on the condition that once our kids are school age, we move BACK to Fallon...or we move back as soon as I start going crazy. Gabbs is so small, it isn't even recognized as a town. Ehhh...yeah. So it probably wouldn't take long for me to start going psycho. But I want to do what's best and Mike driving almost 200 miles a day scares me so bad...I'm really, really glad he's into heavy metal; it keeps him awake on his drives.
You know what? I love that man so much. I think he likes the job and he's looking forward to moving up our there. But he dislikes that he's always crabby and we only get a few hours together from when he gets home to when he has to go to sleep. Hopefully, we'll find a solution :)

Falling behind...

Ok, so I fell a little behind.
Or a lot behind. Whatever. Forgive me. I feel like MAJOR crap-ola. Sunday I went to work and sat behind the uniforms counter feeling like I'll be hit by a truck. But the best part was coming home. The house was clean and after dinner at my parent's house, Mike sent me to bed at 7pm in hopes I'd get better over night.
No such luck, I only felt worse the next morning. So, I went to work for 2 1/2 hours before Anita sent me home...and I spent most of Monday on the couch or in bed with Hulu. By the time I passed out at 10, I thought I'd be so much better today.
No...not even I am that cool.
Mike got up at 4, like he does every day he goes to work and I fell back to sleep shortly after I heard his car drive away. And when I woke back up at nine, I couldn't breathe and I was coughing a lot of crap up. Yay me. Thankfully, it's my day off. So my mom brought me some cough syrup and I feel good enough to make the house look good. Laundry? Nope, you're asking for too much. Maybe, if we had washer and dryer hook ups in our  house...ah, wishful thinking. (Ironic, huh? We have a washer and dryer but can't use them!)
Anywho, back to my list, shall we?

Number 9: crazy nights
Yes, i'm thankful for crazy nights. Saturday (the day before I got sick) we had Chad and Molly over for pizza, movies and video games. We watched Zombieland and then played Scott Pilgram vs the World on the Xbox. Oh yeah...we broke the Xbox TWICE. It was epic.

Number 10: modern medicine
I am especially grateful for it right now. The cough syrup my mom brought me had an okay grape after taste but it still smelled like silly-putty. But it's more than just that. Without our modern marvels, I wouldn't have my titanium spine and Mike wouldn't have his medicine to keep his heart beating normally. Of course, sometimes it fails us (like with Haly and my Grandma Wood) or keeps us alive when we don't understand why (Grandpa Wood) but we've come so far and only have so much farther to go.

Number 11: Mike's job
This job came to us right when I saw no light at the end of the tunnel. And the only way for Mike to go at the mine is up, which he plans on doing. Yes, Mike has to be up by 4am and then drive 80 miles to Gabbs. I feel guilty about it everyday. But he does it because he loves me and wants us to have the best. And one day, our little minions will be running around and he loves the thought of that...so we need every penny since we plan on having four. But the job is so good for him, he seems to thrive under hard labor and a scary work environment.

Number 12: Our bed
Since I've been spending a lot of time in it, feeling like poo, I'm very thankful for it. Manila gave us her old bed, along with the memory pad. It's a queen, so it's nice and cozy. We fight over the blankets and wake each other up in the middle of the night when we discover we're half off the edge because the other is being a bed hog but I love it. Maybe one day we'll upgrade to a king but right now, I love the closeness

Number 13: our country
I'm so thankful to live in a land we're we are free. And where we have a military to keep us safe. It's something I think American's take for granted since we can't see past our borders to the lands where life is so opposite.

Number 14: the church
It was something that I didn't understand and in the past few years, pushed away until about a year ago. But I don't like to think about where I'd be without it. And being able to share it with Mike is such a blessing. I love being married to a man who holds the priesthood. I'm finally with someone who doesn't mock what I hold so dear in my heart, and that's my testimony of repentance, forgiveness and a God who loves his children so much. Without this church, Mike and I could not be together with our children and our families forever. I can't even imagine any kind of eternity without them.

Number 15: music
I'm currently listening to Nickelback. But I love music. I love to sing it, I love to hear it....I just love it. Without it, life would be empty. I'm thankful I married a man who feels the same way, even though the music we love is so different.

5, 6, 7....

NUMBER 5: FRIENDS
Originally, part of my NO FACEBOOK thing was an attempt to be more soical away from that stupid site...and, this is what I got:
Not exactly what I had in mind but not bad...
It really doesn't bother me much because now my husband and my dearest guy friend from high school are now friends too!! And, I'm getting better at Halo...kinda.

NUMBER 6: CREATIVE THINKING
Not long after we move into our house, Carolyne sunggestest that we use candles as much as possible to save on our bills. So, besides doing pretty much everything in the dark, we got these candles to complement our coffee table.
Pumpkin Spice...they make the house smell GREAT!!

NUMBER 7: NIECES AND NEPHEWS
I love these kids so much. And, they are all moving away from us before the end of the month. I know, it sucks. But they are the sweetest kids (when they wanna be) and I smile every time they call me "Auntie Aubrey" :)

Bekah, Christopher and Morgan ♥

Things...

So, I've been seeing this around and Mike says it's all over Facebook
(I'VE BEEN GOOD!! NO FACEBOOK SINCE OCTOBER 18!! WOOOOOOOOH!)
But I'm going to count 26 things I'm thankful for. I'm starting about...3, almost 4 days late and I'll probably get behind, so I'm going to double up some posts. Anywho...ahem!!

Number 1: MIKE!!
I'm soooo thankful for Mike. In every way, we are perfect for each other...two halves to a whole. I don't mean to get all sappy but...I love him. I'm so thankful that I found this guy who gets me in every way AND is willing to put up with me. It's only been 2 months (today!!) but it's been a very good two months :)

Number 2: My JOB
Yes, my job is coming second. It came to me (yeah, I'll put it that way) just when we needed it and it's been just enough (barely) for Mike and I to get by while he's been looking for HIS job. I've worked at the NEX before and I'm enjoying it more this time than last...probably because this time, it's NOT my first ever job, ha.

Number 3: My Family
The last 3 letter's in family are i-l-y aka I LOVE YOU!! And I do love them. Mom and dad have been so supportive all my life and right now. Mike and I wouldn't be out on our own if it wasn't for them so THANK YOU!! I'm severely missing Ryne right now, to help buffer out Tyler's crazy, and he's been there for me through everything. And Tyler the Goober...well, life just wouldn't be as interesting without you :)

Number 4: Our house
Our house has become our home. It's small and perfect for us. It's my safe haven after a long day of work...and now that the elm beetles have died off, pest free!! Mike and I just got our long awaited coffee table today so our living room is perfect!! But more than that, it's a roof over our heads, and an escape from life were we can be together as our little family unit :)
